Yesterday I went into the local Fleet Feet.
Overpriced shoes are not normally my calling, but I had to get my arches evaluated. The lady was making small talk. It was a good thing it was a lady for two reasons: The guy working had a ring on his left hand and I hadn't shaved in a couple days. Anyway she told me I was starting out too fast with how far I was going. She warned me to slow down on how far so that I wouldn't get shin splints and longer term I was looking at stress fractures in 6 months. Gotta love free running advice from someone over 30.
So far here are my stats (Shout out to the makers of the
Nike+ app for iPhone for helping me track
my progress!):
 |
| 2.60 miles in 34:01 min = 13'03"/mi (9/14). |
 |
| 2.60 miles in 34:01 min = 13'03"/mi (9/14). |
 |
| 4.47 miles in 56:41 min = 12'39"/mi (Tuesday). |
 |
| 2.00 miles in 22:36 min = 11'16"/mi (Thursday). |
 |
| and today was 2.61 miles in 30:00 min = 11'43"/mi. |
So in 8 days, I've effectively shaved 4 minutes off my 2.6 mile. Also that means in little over a week I've burned 1,551 calories. Uhhhh why do I love beer so much.
So I wasn't really having any pain other than finding some long lost muscles and ligaments until today. I thought my shins were going to break in half.
Meanwhile back at the arches... Mine were perfectly normal. Thank you dance and yoga! I knew you'd pay off one day. And thanks to the nice lady at Fleet Feet. Got some new shoes ordered. I've been working with some Nike Airs and they're pretty good, but hopefully when my new ones come in I'll see a difference in the splinting shins.
And I promise I'll go a little easier this week.
